Student protestors in Cape Town pushed their way through Parliament’s gates (M&G ZA) earlier today, ‘clashing’ with police (CNBC video) who responded by firing stun grenades (NDTV) into the crowds. The South African Students Congress has called for a #NationalShutDown of all universities after rejecting the government’s proposed 6% cap on fee increases.

The Daily Vox (@theDailyVox) is live tweeting from outside Parliament and provided this video of demonstrators chanting ‘we want Gwede!‘, calling for ANC Secretary General, Gwede Mantashe to address the protestors demands for an end to university fee increases. Mantashe was at Parliament today for Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene’s mid-term budget policy speech.
