Agricultural researchers in Africa have been urged to come up with more innovations in agriculture, through research, to accelerate transformation of the sector across the continent.  The call was made yesterday by the Prime Minister, Anastase Murekezi, while opening the 7th Africa Agriculture Science Week and the General Assembly of the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) in Kigali. Microsoft is buying the professional networking website LinkedIn for just over $26bn (£18bn) in cash. The software giant will pay $196 a share – a premium of almost 50% to Friday’s closing share price. The deal will help Microsoft boost sales of its business and email software. (BBC)

Yeelenpix is the startup company selling images of Africa that reflect the continent’s diversity. Yeelenpix is a company in its infancy, having only been launched in 2013, but it aims to broaden the way that Africa is presented in pictures. Asking someone to pick an image that represents a vast continent would be impossible, and the team behind Yeelenpix felt that the images available were too limited. (Africa-me)

Smart Cities

A South African network infrastructure provider, VAST Networks has partnered with MyCiti, a bus transit company, to deliver on-board internet access to commuters on the service. MyCiti buses are BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), 10 of them have been fitted with WiFi routers, and all 380 in Cape Town will join the party soon. (Techcabal)
