After 4 years of running Fashion Week on the campus of the KNUST, curators from Ayo A Ghana felt it was time to pay homage to the Ashanti monarchy and its rich, indigenous aesthetics, old and new, on a bigger scale. Together with ICommerce Events, they brought to the city of Kumasi bold prints, clean cuts, flirty forms and street couture for the first ever edition of Kumasi Fashion Week.

This year’s fashion week was themed ‘cosmopolitan meets culture’ and featured exhibitions, runway shows, and training seminars for up and coming, local fashion designers. Da Viva, one of the event’s sponsors, provided fabrics for designers at the seminars to showcase as part of their ‘Da Viva Next Generation Designers’ initiative.

Abena Ampomah Adjei, is a public relations officer for Kumasi Fashion Week who shared with us more about this year’s exhibitions along with some of her insights into what fashion lovers can expect to see from some of this year’s most innovative designers.
