A new UN report shows an increase in reports of sexual exploitation and sexual abuse by United Nations peacekeepers with 69 claims made last year. The allegations involve a number of military personnel, international police, staff and volunteers from several African countries across 10 different missions with almost one third of the claims made in the Central African Republic (BBC News).
Citizens of Benin will begin voting this Sunday to choose a new president from among a record 33 candidates as incumbent Thomas Boni Yayi leaves the office after serving out his 2 term maximum. Top campaign issues among the candidates have been corruption, jobs and agricultural reform. If no individual is able to win a clear majority, there will be a run-off election held in 2 weeks (VOA News).

Nigeria’s Jumia continues its surge as Africa’s leading e-commerce platform after raising more than $325 million in its latest round of funding. Jumia’s parent company, Africa Internet Group says the new investments boost the company’s value to nearly $1.1 billion as it looks to become the continent’s version of Amazon (Yahoo News).
